Pascal Marchand owns and carefully tends some rows of vines in this vineyard, utilising the biodynamic practices he has honed over his three decades in Burgundy. Clos du Roi means “Kings Enclosure” in French – this vineyard was claimed for the crown by King Louis XI following the death of Charles the Bold, the last duke of Burgundy, in the 15th Century.

Medium to deep red colour with a trace of purple and a sweet bouquet of ripe black cherry, slightly stewed fruit driving the wine. Forest-floor too. It has a definite whole-bunchy pinot perfume. The wine is medium-bodied, with obvious tannins firming up the finish, contributing length and authority. Sumptuous richness and ripeness. (50% whole-bunch)
