Wine people love using the word 'umami', and while it's not a bandwagon I generally like to hitch a ride on, it applies here. This wine just has something outside of the sweet, sour, salty, bitter sphere. It has ripe cherried fruit flavour, and violet notes, and cedarwood, and sweet spices, but there's also a seaweed-meets-undergrowth note that is most beguiling. The flavours here, which persist beautifully, are also complemented by fine but assertive tannin. In short, we're in excellent territory here.

Deep, dark and inky in the glass. Aromas of blueberry, blackberry, bramble, Asian spice, nutty oak and mocha. Powerfully flavoured, dark fruited, opulent and structured. Black and blue fruits are well and truly at play, along with sweet spice, creamy oak and anise. Layered, firm, long and with lovely brightness and texture
