Australia's iconic wine, the 2020 Penfolds Grange, continues to astound with its profound complexity and depth. Deep ruby in color, it exudes an intense nose of black fruits, spice, and hints of dried herbs, wrapped in a bouquet garni with nuances of forest floor and fungi. Reflecting the warmth of the vintage, there's a noticeable sweetness from high alcohol, reminiscent of a port-like nose. On the palate, this decadent wine unveils ripe, rich fruit flavors of robust plum, spice, and floral notes. Oak aging contributes to its complexity with layers of vanilla, charred oak, pencil shavings, cocoa, bramble, and hints of sour prunes. Despite its richness, the Grange maintains harmony with refined tannins, promising immense aging potential. Cellar this masterpiece for a decade or two to fully appreciate its artistry. Drinking a Grange is an occasion in itself but were you to have this alongside a dish like slow roasted venison with a blackberry and juniper reduction, the memory will live on with you forever.
