Explosive youthful blue fruit aromas are married to impressive concentration and bright acidity on the tightly-wound palate of this self-confident cool climate syrah. The very fine tannins drive the long, delicately herbal and slightly sappy finish. Drink or hold.

Well, syrah has certainly earned its place at the top tier this vintage. Fruit off the close-planted site (5200 vines/ha) at Oakridge, mostly destemmed, with 20% whole bunches in the ferment. Matured 10 months in 10% new French puncheons, harnessing the elements into a complete wine. It's wonderfully savoury, spicy and smoky, with plentiful grainy, textural tannins. It's full bodied, but there's no excess here.
