Santa Margherita Wine Terroirs
A Story written in the LandThe terroirs of Adige Valley, the Eastern Veneto, and the hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene: it is in these rich, fertile - but very varied regions – that the winery has chosen to cultivate its vineyards. In 1961 in the Alto Adige, Gaetano Marzotto discovered a new, elegant, and modern wine: Pinot Grigio. He immediately recognized its potential and decided to launch its production, using a new method of vinification - "in bianco".
Now already famous, Pinot Grigio Santa Margherita was elected Italy’s best white wine in the United States in 1979 and established itself as the leader in its product sector, becoming an icon on the American market as well. They created as well the estate at Refrontolo, in the heart of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG: 18.5 hectares of vineyards, which form part of one of the 43 “Rive” or municipal sub-denominations that produce the finest Prosecco Superiores, from specific terroirs. For Santa Margherita, “good wine” cannot but come from an unspoiled environment, in which nature is left free to take its course, respecting its laws without constricting it in any way.
