Penfolds Grange 2015

"Grange takes time. Vineyards used in the 2015 Grange have been well-tested. Many have toiled for decades, some well over a century. Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley & Magill parentage – not by accident!

Matured in barrels sourced only from Quercus alba, oak planted many years back in a distant Northern Hemisphere locale, patiently air-dried and then assembled only by local trusted AP John coopers. Crafted to the original 1951 blueprint in cellars relatively new (Nuriootpa, back to 1911), and old (Magill, back to 1844). This is what this South Australian vintage allowed us to blend & bottle. The 2015 Grange."

Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2017

"Task 1: Dial up three ‘must include’ 2017 Chardonnay sources from anywhere in Australia.

Task 2: Create a wish-list for the finest French oak available.

Task 3: Challenge & finesse the final barrique selection – no constraints of volume, only style/quality.

End result: Fantasy? No, the 2017 Yattarna."

Penfolds RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017

"Shiraz, Barossa, French oak, Penfolds, 2017, … ? Yes please.

Be quick – yet another small-parcel RWT release of lower volume than Grange. Sssh.

No longer a trial. A reality. A RWT dream run, 1997 > 2017 without a vintage or quality miss.

Penfolds Magill Estate Shiraz 2017

"For the first time in a long time – this vineyard was picked in the second week of March, 2017. What does this mean? Open & taste … all will be revealed. We’re pleased.

Why so little? Magill’s constrained 5.2 hectares of vineyard from the last millennium remains 5.2 hectares in the current! And, a little bit less for a few years to come … Blocks 2 & 3 were recently completely replanted, and in 2019 a first crop was picked.

Overall, in the scheme of things, but a hiccup. It will be worth the wait."

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2016

"Flirting with the purity & allure of Shiraz. Yes, guilty as charged – surreptitiously seduced.

Could this release be another magical 1971 or 2010? i.e. a wafer-thin quality difference between Grange & St Henri in these vintages. Let’s wait for the global reviews … there’s too much bias on this keyboard."

Penfolds Reserve Bin A Chardonnay 2018

"Why release Reserve Bin A one year before Yattarna?

To reply in the nicest possible way – Because we can. Seatbelt-up for the complete journey in bottle, start to finish. And what a ride!"

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2017

"What can be meaningfully added to 57 years of Bin 389 commentary? Plenty! Where to start?

- Its value/quality proposition? No, sounds too commercial.
- Its oak/fruit balance and propensity to age? No, this is a given.
- The symbolism of its Baby Grange moniker? No, overstated.
- Just a great drink, year in, year out? Yes, that will do!

Next."

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

"Still 100% multi-regional Cabernet Sauvignon, and still matured in French & American oak hogsheads, some new, some not. Cabernet varietal expression framed to a distinctive Penfolds style.

Still."

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz 2017

"Rumour has it that the scope of the Bin 150 ‘proposition’ may soon evolve…Watch this space. Exciting times ahead."

Until then, revel in this Marananga 2017 Shiraz package – colourfully wrapped in French & American oak, a tannic seal tightening its mid-palate, and a colourful bow of sprightly spice & sumptuous fruits."

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz 2017

"Access to select parcels of shiraz from the North & South of the state allow the Bin 28 style to flourish … the first created 60 years ago! No two vintages the same, yet all unwaveringly Bin 28.

Reach confidently tonight for a chosen vintage of Bin 28 to drink from the sixties, seventies, eighties or nineties. The new millennium? All are ready, yet no hurry. Climate-proofed. Not cellar-proofed!"

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz 2017

"Hits the bullseye.

Bin 128 should look different.
It should be regionally correct.
It should bear the Penfolds stamp.
It does.

All achieved with just that little bit of help – French oak to tighten the palate, fruits from a collection of time-proven vineyards across Coonawarra, and the invaluable assistance of mother nature."

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Bin 23 Pinot Noir 2018

"A style evolution which is true to our winemaking philosophy; three cool-climate regions for one bold blend.

Each region adds something to the wine; Henty we find aromatics and texture, Tasmania provides intensity and structure and the Adelaide Hills brings density, weight and richness."

— Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2018

"Relegated Bin A Chardonnay fruit from the Adelaide Hills.

Relegated Yattarna Chardonnay fruit from Tasmania & Tumbarumba.

The poor cousin? Never. Our clever Bin 389 of Chardonnay!! Evermore!"

— Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker

PENFOLDS 2019 COLLECTION

Penfolds Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling 2019

"A reduced volume reaped out of the Eden Valley Riesling 2019 harvest.

BUT no deviation from this wine’s style or quality aspirations. Expectation of Bin 51 Riesling remains high.

Compromise? Why?"

— Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker
