INTRODUCING WINE MERCHANT

Malisa Caroselli

After 25 years in Los Angeles, Emmy-nominated TV producer and UCLA-trained wine educator Malisa Caroselli opted for a complete change of direction, and moved back to Australia to pursue a career in wine.

While she could have chosen any region, Margaret River had been at the top of herlist since she first studied its wines at UCLA back in 2004. “I like living where the grapes grow, I like drinking the wine, I love the food, all of it!” Malisa enjoys the proximity of Perth to the vineyards, which allows her to visit Margaret River regularly and stay connected with producers in the region.

Award-winning, elegant, age-worthy wine

“I think the best chardonnays in Australia are coming from Margaret River right now, but conditions are perfect for semillon, sauvignon blanc and chenin blanc, too.

“The pristine environment, sandy granite-based soils, the fact that it’s surrounded by ocean on three sides and a temperate Mediterranean climate all play a role in producing award-winning, elegant and age-worthy wines.”

MEET THE MAKER

Deep Woods' Julian Langworthy

Deeps Woods’ winemaker Julian Langworthy is on fire – Halliday’s 2019 Winemaker of the Year, Ray Jordan’s 2017 Winery of the Year... he can do no wrong in my eyes. To quote James Halliday: “What is one word that describes a great wine? I think many people would say balance. And that’s what his [Julian’s] wines have beyond compare.”

Whether it’s an easy, fruity semillon sauvignon blanc or an elegant chardonnay, he’s really paying attention to what people want to drink and what the region does well.
