Meet Bruce Gordon

Bruce Gordon decided to move to South Australia from Ontario, Canada while sharing a few bottles of shiraz with some mates. “It was a Coriole. I looked at the map on the back of the label and decided that if McLaren Vale made wine like that, that’s where I was going to end up.”

While it was shiraz that started our Marion Wine Merchant’s love of South Australian wines, 25 years’ work in restaurants and at cellar doors in the region have made him an expert in grenache. “It’s a fantastic old varietal that’s being made in some amazing traditional and modern styles.

reveals his top grenache picks

"When I first arrived, South Australia was producing really jammy, intensely flavoured wines," Bruce says. "But our great luxury is that we’re not bound by tradition – Australian winemakers are mixing inspiration from Spain, France and Portugal to make some really distinguishable wines."

"I’ve picked some fragrant, spicy wines with lovely juicy characters, but not so heavy they’re overwhelming. They represent the best at every price point."
