Find your headphones – we’ve rounded up our fave drinks-related poddies of all time and the drinks you should be sipping as you listen.

Video didn’t kill the radio star, the podcast did. That sneaky audio medium does it all – it’s pause-ible, rewindable and so comprehensive you can find one about anything and everything. From serial killers to horny fantasy fanfiction, you name it, it’s searchable. So, being the online drinks connoisseurs we are, we rounded up our favourite drinks podcasts for your listening pleasure. Sommeliers chatting about super-premium wine, bartenders talking behind the scenes, or just some good boozy anecdotes, there’s a little something for everyone. And we’d be bad friends if we didn’t recommend a drink to sip on while listening to these gems, so we’ve gone ahead and done that, too.
1. Life Behind Bars
Hosted by Noah Rothbaum and David Wondrich (both of Daily Beast), the award-winning Life Behind Bars is all about, well, life behind bars – the alcohol kind, not the jail kind. Sit with these two legends as they chat about service, talk through their stories, and go full-on into the history of spirits and cocktails. It’s educational, it’s funny, it’s boozy. Get on it. But make sure you’re sipping on the king cocktail while listening. We’re of course talking about the mack-daddy, the supreme, the forever complex Martini. We like ours dry, so gravitate towards a drier style of gin like the delicious Melbourne Dry Gin by Patient Wolf. But, as you may know, the Martini is a bespoke drink, so you can mix it however you want. The traditional Martini uses a dry gin, 40% or higher. Find our recipe here and sip it to the dulcet tones of Noah and David.
2. Good Beer HuntingYou’d be hard-pressed to find a beer person who doesn’t fill a conversation with beer talk (oh, you like a hazy ale… no duh) but with Good Beer Hunting, you get more. There is talk of beer, of course, but also its evolving ecosystem, the people who cultivate it, the value chains surrounding the practice, and struggles and learnings. With storytelling and big pushes toward sustainability, this podcast is perfect for beer-heads looking to deep-dive or those tickling a beer fancy. Come as you are! In terms of a tipple to go along with your listening, we reckon a Hawkers Stout, which just picked up a gold medal at the Australian International Beer Awards in the ‘Best Porter/Stouts’ category. An award-winning beer for award-winning interviews? Perfect.
3. Wine BlastEver wanted to know what two married Masters of Wine talk about in their free time? Well, now you have the chance. Listen in on this hilarious couple’s bickering, bants and talk of all things wine in Wine Blast, from truly amazing interviews and provocative wine chats to food and wine tips, and a lot of question-answering. This podcast whets and sates your wine appetite! If you’re unsure if it’s for you, check out its numerous awards and immense popularity. It’s a chart-topper for a reason, folks. Because it’s exclusively a wine podcast, we need a great wine to complement this audio experience. As the two hosts are quite British, we’re going to go ahead and suggest the Nyetimber English Sparkling Classic Cuvee. England might not be the first place you think of when it comes to sparkling, but trust us – this drop goes off here at Dan’s Daily because it’s just that delicious. Think beautiful honeycomb notes and apple aromas that are finished, full-bodied and pillowy.
4. Wine Show AustraliaLove wine? Love people? Love wine people? Wine Show Australia is your podcast. Simon Nash, Jill Upton and our very own wine merchant Richard ‘Richo’ Doumani bring on different industry personalities to chat through their stories, wine journey and ‘why oh, why’ did they pick wine? It’s a fun Aussie romp with some downright awesome people. In terms of a wine to drink while plugging in? We had to ask Richo himself: “Punt Road Pinot Noir. How is this similar to The Wine Show? Neither takes themselves too seriously. They both have a relaxed attitude. They have complexity without being too complicated. And of course, are both authentic and approachable.” Sounds good to us! If you’re in Melbourne, you can catch this show on the old-school radio, too – just tune into 96.5 Inner FM in Melbourne from 9am to 11am on Sundays.
5. Drinks AdventuresNot everything has to be a niche. There can exist a podcast that covers it all, but is still in-depth and consistent. That is what Drinks Adventures is – an adventure through the many styles, forms and shapes of all alcohol, from your craft beers, to your tequilas and gins. All of it! Through interviews, host James Atkinson takes us on a journey through the world’s most loved, niche, delicious drops. Touching on mixology, brewing, and sommelier-ing, it's a one-stop shop, and we love it. So, we paired it with something that is equally fun, approachable and informed – Michter's Straight Rye Whiskey. There was a great ep with Michter’s master distiller Dan McKee last season and listening to stories about liquor just feels like a whiskey-sipping pastime, you know?
6. Got SommeIf there was ever a “best pun competition”, Thai restaurants and podcast titles would win every award. If the name Got Somme drew you in (like it did for us), stick around for the show because it’s fun, informative and a right-good listen. Hosted by Master Sommelier Carlos Santos and novice wine enthusiast Angus O’Loughlin, the podcast is basically Carlos trying to teach Angus how to ascertain when a wine is good and when it’s bad, all while empowering viewers to learn so they can also pick the right wine and, more importantly, understand what they like and why. The very first season of Got Somme focused on finding the very best bottle of wine for under $30, and (spoiler alert) the winner was Chateau Haut-Madrac Haut Medoc Rouge (note it’s $34.99 at full price, but very often on sale), so it makes sense to drink this while listening. You’ll be able to follow along with their tasting notes and tips like a little interactive session. How good!
7. Wine for Normal PeopleA podcast without the “snobbery”, according to Wine for Normal People's bio on Apple. Host Elizabeth Schneider, a real person (certified somm, certified specialist of wine and more) loves wine and believes everyone should have an accessible guide to understand its various types, histories, gadgets and tastes. Wine but make it Joe Blow. Every episode offers a little deep dive into a region with some great insights from local experts. Elizabeth’s charming excitement about all things wine beams through the microphone. Since this is purely a wine podcast without the so-called snobbery of wine, we think a little cheeky midweek rosé is exactly what this podcast calls for. The French Listel Grains de Gris Rosé is all wine, no pomp – pale and bright with fresh citrus and a beautiful red berry bouquet. And best of all? It’s an absolute bargain. Oui, oui!
8. GuildSomm PodcastThis is for those of us who already love wine, work in wine or know the basics of wine. GuildSomm Podcast is hefty and comprehensive, and discusses everything from tannin management to reductions, wine laws and super in-depth tastings. If you want to know basically everything about wine in a very layered and focused way, this is for sure a podcast you want to get to know. But don’t let our preamble scare you; it may be heavy, but it’s incredibly informative. There is a particular episode of GuildSomm that does a great job of talking through Chile’s diverse landscape and wine growing that will give any wine enthusiast the tingles. Especially the “discovery” of Leyda Valley in the ’90s and the impressive pinot noir grown there. So, a Chilean drop from Leyda Valley is 100% what is required to enjoy this podcast – we suggest this brilliant Leyda Reserva Pinot Noir. From one of the region’s pioneering producers, it’s dry, light and very expressive. Very fresh. Very juicy.
