Call your Game of Thrones fan club, the Targaryens are ready, and their Cab Sauv Shiraz is the stuff of kings.

Now three years since the end of the hugely popular Game of Thrones television series, the prequel, House of the Dragon, is finally upon us. Let the reign of House Targaryen begin! Here’s what we know.

The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” novel, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It tells the story of House Targaryen, following one of Daenerys’ ancestors – Prince Daemon Targaryen.

What else do we know? Wolf Blass has released an ultra-special wine with three collectible labels, just to toast this momentous occasion. The excitement is building as fans worldwide mark their calendars with their watch parties for the much-anticipated debut on Foxtel and BINGE on the 22nd of August – by which time you can have the Wolf Blass House of the Dragon wine ready to pour.

The Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is a 2021 vintage. A year with a lot of spring rain in South Australia and hence, bright, plump grapes. The juice was matured in a mix of French and American oak to create an elegant, velvety rich wine with a palate of plush berries, ripe plums and a savoury spice. It really is just the kind of thing you’d expect Tyrion Lannister to be drinking out of a gold goblet. And that man knew good wine. It’s also that perfect crimson red colour that you’d associate with Westeros, mainly because of, well, you know. That wedding.

The bottles come in three collectable and stunning labels featuring fire-breathing dragons. So, if you have a trophy shelf, or know someone who does, these would look perfect alongside the dragon egg and Jon Snow figurine. The wine can be cellared (on the shelf) for several years or drunk now, to coincide with your first glimpse of the House of the Dragon opening credits — which are bound to be amazing, triumphantly scored and stuck in your head.

Pair your House of the Dragon watch party wine with a decadent cheese board. The perfect cheese board requires three cheeses, one hard (like a parmigiano-reggiano), one soft (blue cheese) and a good medium like cheddar or gouda. Provide a knife per cheese and a neutral cracker and bread with walnuts or olives. Add red grapes and dried fruit like apricots or pear and some good quality dark chocolate. What a feast. It’s good to be back in Westeros.

House of the Dragon Cab Sauv Shiraz is on sale instore and online now – exclusively at Dan Murphy’s and BWS.
