How good is daylight savings? If you’re reading this from Queensland, Northern Territory or Western Australia – don’t feel left out; we need this win. For six sweet months of the calendar year, we south-easterners get to pretend like we’ve actually got weather worth going outside in. And hoooo-boy, is it glorious.

What you choose to do with that extra sunny hour is up to you. Me? I’m popping over to Dan’s with my My Dan’s card in tow to pick up some sick deals. Which sick deals? These three right here, of course.

For October, we’re talking all things wine and wine-adjacent. Whatever your flavour of after-work lounging, I’ve got you covered with these. Below, find my Editor-approved picks for the best My Dan’s member offers this month – all at an extra tasty low price in-store and online until November 6.

1. MDI Wines Pinot Grigio

The best way to manifest perfect spring days is by sipping bright, refreshing and interesting wines – trust me, I’m a doctor*. Turns out, MDI’s Pinot Grigio perfectly fits the bill. Victorian winemaker Kevin McCarthy is an Aussie treasure. Having learned the ropes from the masters in France and Italy, Kevin and his winemaker wife Kathleen Quealy are widely regarded as the founding parents of pinot gris/grigio on our shores (they’re the legends behind the much-loved T’Gallant and Quealy wines). He’s always been a bit of a renegade, favouring alternative grapes (yep, pinot grigio was virtually unheard of in Mornington Peninsula before this duo came along) and championing some of Australia’s strongest and earliest attempts at quality skin-contact wines.

With MDI (pronounced ‘Mandi’), he’s bottled Mildura’s best to create a mega reliable wine. Nice and zippy, just a dash of fruit ripeness (think pears) and drizzly honey, with plenty of savoury notes here, too. It’s clean, versatile, great with food and super delicious. What a slam dunk.

Non-member price: $21.99
Member price: $19

2. Barbadillo Fino Sherry

Continuing with the wine-ish theme, it’s high time you got around sherry. For the uninitiated, sherry is fortified wine hailing from Jerez in Spain – and if you’ve only tried the stuff at the back of your grandma’s cupboard, you’ve got a whole world of yum waiting for you.

A great place to start with this very, quote unquote, ‘on-trend’ category is fino sherry – Barbadillo Fino, to be exact. Fino is as dry as sherry gets – dry meaning not sweet. Barbadillo is without question the most iconic sherry producer in Sanlucar de Barrameda (in Spain’s most southwestern tip) as they’ve been pumping out bangers since 1821. It’s savoury, slightly salty, bready and nutty. Very affordable, very tasty. Drink it well chilled while snacking on some olives – happy days.

Non-member price: $19.99
Member price: $16

3. Zonzo Cicchio Spritz

We all fell head over heels for Zonzo Estate’s Limoncello Spritz over the last year, and while that love affair is far from over (they just released a convenient canned version, FYI), can I please introduce you to their new Cicchio Spritz? It’s basically pistachios with prosecco and I’m obsessed. Yes, it’s easy drinking, BUT it’s interesting. I find it less sweet than the Limoncello version (note, it’s still definitely a sweet drink) and the flavour is nuanced without taking itself too damn seriously. There’s a slightly creamy texture that tickles my fancy and I can guarantee you haven’t tried anything quite like it. Just pour it into a nice big wine glass over ice (one for each of your mates, too) and let me know when you’ve fallen in love.
