7 hard lemonades against a pink and red background

Zesty and refreshing, these no-fuss drinks deliver major refreshment.

There’s something about the taste of old-school lemonade that takes us right back to simpler times. Like when you’d enjoy it freshly squeezed and ice-cold after a dip in the neighbour’s pool as a kid, or devour a citrusy icy pole in the back of a hot car after school. Whatever your association with lemonade back in the day, there’s no denying it’s a refreshing and memory-inducing flavour. So now, as adults, sipping on an alcoholic version means we get a serving of nostalgia, along with a tasty and refreshing beverage that’s perfect for this time of year. There are also plenty of hard lemon squashes out there, but we’re leaning into alcoholic lemonades, so here are some of our favourites to see you through the season.

1. Brookvale Union Vodka Lemonade

Kicking it off with a hard lemonade that’s equal parts nostalgic and fresh, this is a nod to yesteryear and a whole lot of fun. We’re talking smooth vodka meets zesty lemonade in a crisp, easy-drinking mix that’s no fuss and all refreshment. It’s bright, balanced and made for moments that call for something simple yet satisfying – the kind of can you want in your hand on a sun-drenched afternoon, preferably on a picnic rug surrounded by mates with the whole night ahead of you. Oh, and a pack of salt and vinegar chips for good measure.

2. Ampersand Vodka & Lemonade

A little catch-up on the horizon? We’re guessing yes, given the weather is teasing it. This next pick will definitely fit the brief. Brought to you by the crew at Ampersand Projects, this is a fresh spin on a classic. Smooth vodka meets classic lemonade – and at 4% ABV, it’s sugar-free, carb-free and very sippable for that next event. Or if you’re after a slightly different take, their Whisky & Lemonade is for you. Aussie whisky, soda and a splash of lime never tasted so good – especially when it’s sipped at a music festival watching your all-time favourite band as the sun sets. Bliss.

3. Doozy Half and Half Iced Tea and Lemonade

The story behind Doozy? A group of Sydney Swans players wanted a refreshing beverage that wasn’t beer. The result is a low-carb option the whole crew can get around, whether it’s for a party or a chilled Sunday arvo. They’ve taken iced tea and lemonade – a ripper combination – and added vodka to create something really tasty. A total crowd-pleaser, this low-carb, low-sugar RTD will be on high rotation as the weather warms up. Toss it into the esky and sip it with a barbecued sausage in bread in the other hand.

4. Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey & Lemonade

What do you get when you take the iconic smoothness of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and mix it with just the right amount of lemonade? Well, we think you can probably guess. This easygoing premix offers a refreshing citrus twist that can be enjoyed straight from the can or over ice. At 4.8% ABV, it’s crisp and full of flavour – try it with a homemade cheeseburger or zesty chicken salad for a familiar and tasty combination. Sip it anywhere friends are.

5. Malibu Watermelon Lemonade

When you want a taste of Malibu’s signature white rum with a fun twist, but you don’t want to turn into a mixologist to do it, enter Malibu Watermelon Lemonade. Think rum, sweet watermelon and a zesty lemon-lime finish. We reckon a fruity and refreshing sip like this would go down a treat with some freshly grilled seafood, and if that means hot-footing it to the local fish and chippery to pick up some flake and chips, then so be it. Summer plans sorted.

6. White Claw Refrshr Alcoholic Lemonade Variety 10 Pack

Can’t decide on a flavour of White Claw Refrshr Alcoholic Lemonade to sip? It’s tricky because they’re all delicious, which is why the variety pack is an obvious choice, especially if you’re entertaining. Each can features 5% ABV and just one gram of sugar, making it a light yet tasty option for all your warm-weather activities (like Finska in the backyard or a picnic on the nature strip). The variety pack includes Limón with a hint of Calamansi, Blood Orange with Black Raspberry, Blackberry with Red Cherry, and Strawberry with Kiwi. For snacks, we think a cheese platter is always a strong contender when White Claw is on the cards.

7. Pals Vodka Pink Lemon and Soda

Pink lemons? Yep, they’re a thing. Slightly sweeter than their OG counterparts, this rare citrus brings a unique flavour when blended with triple-distilled vodka – you’ll just have to sip a can of Pals (with your pals) to experience its magic. At 5% ABV, with all-natural flavours, no artificial colours or sweeteners, and gluten-free and vegan-friendly, this is one overachieving and delicious hard lemonade. Its bright, fruity profile pairs perfectly with fresh, light dishes, like a crisp salad or barbecued prawns. Tasty!
