A vibrant passionfruit martini cocktail in a chilled glass with a floating passionfruit garnish

If you have martini glasses, vodka and passionfruit, we have the cocktail recipe for you.

About the cocktail

Do you love passionfruit? Are you thrilled by martini glasses? Is vodka your favourite spirit? Well, you’re in luck. We’ve got a Passionfruit Martini recipe that will blow your mind.

But first, let’s talk about the fact that it’s called a Martini, despite being nothing like a classic Martini. If we look at the ingredients in both a Martini and a Passionfruit Martini you’ll see almost no similarities bar one: the glass. Yep, that’s right, the classification of a Martini comes down to one thing, the v-shaped glass. This is why things like the Nutella Martini and the Appletini are squidged into the Martini extended family (not that we’re complaining).

So, what does the Passionfruit Martini taste like? Sweet, fruity, tropical goodness. The pineapple juice creates a glorious texture that really thickens and lengthens the flavours. If a classic Martini is just not your vibe, this is one we think you can get around.

For the ideal Friday night in, pair a Passionfruit Martini with a ’90s playlist to match.

Passionfruit Martini cocktail ingredients

  • 10mL sugar syrup
  • 10mL lime juice
  • 30mL pineapple juice
  • Pulp of 1 passionfruit
  • 15mL passionfruit liqueur
  • 45mL vodka
  • Garnish: half a passionfruit

Method

  1. To a cocktail shaker, add all ingredients, except the garnish
  2. Add some ice, and shake until the outside of the tin is nice and frosty
  3. Strain it into a chilled coupe or martini glass
  4. Garnish with the passionfruit half

Dan’s top tips

Unlike the Classic Martini, there are no real hard-and-fast rules for its passionfruity cousin. However, if you want it to *technically* be a Martini, it has to be served in the classic v-shaped glass. That said, we won’t tell anyone if you don’t.

Our one tip? Stick your martini glasses in the freezer half an hour before serving, so the glass is nice and cold. Thank us later.

  1. What is the best passionfruit liqueur at Dan Murphy's?
When it comes to passionfruit liqueur, great examples to use as a cocktail base include Passoa and Chroma Lab.

  2. Can I make a non-alcoholic Passionfruit Martini cocktail?
To make a non-alc version of our Passionfruit Martini you'll need to sub the vodka for a non-alc version like Ms Sans' Make Me A Sanstini Vodka Substitute. And then swap the passionfruit liqueur for a passionfruit puree or passionfruit syrup (if you're using a syrup, omit the 10mL of sugar syrup from the original recipe so it doesn't become cloying).

  3. Can I get Passionfruit Martini ingredients delivered at my doorstep?
You can order everything you need to make a Passionfruit Martini from Dan Murphy's and have it delivered to your door (except the passionfruit pulp, which you can pick up from your local supermarket). From Dan's you'll need sugar syrup, lime juice, pineapple juice, passionfruit liqueur and vodka..
