The Gin Blossom cocktail

Mix gin, peach schnapps and vermouth for a cocktail that’s made for summer.

About the cocktail

The Gin Blossom cocktail came about as a twist on the Martini thanks to Brooklyn bartender Julie Reiner. Julie’s recipe featured apricot eau-de-vie, but here we’ve used peach schnapps to give the Gin Blossom more of a summery feel. It’s sure to be a hit on those warm evenings, as well as those times when you want to channel some warmer vibes.

With only a few key ingredients, this cocktail really lets its elements shine. We’re talking about lifted botanicals from the gin and herbal, sweet and savoury notes of the vermouth, all balanced out by the richnees of the peach schnapps. Chilled and diluted by first mixing it with ice, this is one bright, refreshing cocktail.

  • 30mL bianco vermouth
  • 20mL peach schnapps
  • Dash of orange bitters
  • Garnish: lemon peel and edible flowers

Method

  1. Add all ingredients except garnishes to a mixing glass
  2. Add a healthy helping of ice, then stir well
  3. Strain into a coupe glass
  4. If you want make it extra fancy, garnish with a lemon peel and edible flowers

Dan’s top tips

You may want to try substituting the peach schnapps for apricot to bring on the flavours from Julie’s original recipe. But feel free to also play around with other flavours too – they will all create different Gin Blossoms to suit your mood and the occasion.

And because this is such a pretty little number, we think it’s made for garnishes such as edible flowers. You can generally find these in good grocers, either fresh or dried. Make it as understated or OTT as you like.
