Do Dad’s Day right with these easy-to-prepare cocktail recipes, guaranteed to make you look like a pro.

Papa, can you hear me? We hope so, because it’s cocktail time. ’Round here we’ll take any excuse to throw a cocktail party, but Father’s Day is one heck of a good time to do just that. Of course, Dad might appreciate an ice-cold beer, a crisp gamay or a plain old G&T any other day of the year, but if there was ever a time to pull out the big guns, it’s Father’s Day. Whether you’re celebrating your dad, step-dad, baby daddy or anyone who’s played that special father figure role in your life (hell, maybe you’re the dad), you’d better whip out the cocktail shaker and impress them with your mean cocktail skills.

If you don’t have any of those just yet, never fear – below we’ve got five cocktail recipes for Father’s Day guaranteed to set the scene for a fabulous celebration. Easy to prepare, but they’ll make you look like a total pro.

1. Jalapeño MargaritaSome dads like it hot, and a Jalapeño Margarita has just the right amount of spice to set your tastebuds alight without burning them right off. If you’re cooking up a spicy meal for a Father’s Day dinner, this tequila-based cocktail is the ideal appetiser. Sweet, sour and a li’l spicy, it’s an instant crowd-pleaser. Unless he doesn’t like spice, in which case hold the jalapeño or skip to the next cocktail.
2. Espresso MartiniJust because this a favourite for a girls’ night out, doesn’t mean Dad won’t dig it too. After all, it’s coffee and vodka – who could say no to a flavour combo like that? Surprisingly easy for how impressive it is, just be sure to decorate with a few coffee beans for that extra bit of pizzazz. And yes, the martini glass is a must. Only the best for daddio.
3. GodfatherIf jalapeños are too spicy and coffee too caffeine-y, make Dad an offer he can’t refuse and give the Godfather a go. With just two ingredients – Scotch and amaretto – plus a handful of ice, this super-easy cocktail is absolutely delicious and equal parts bitter and sweet. It’s marvellous as a digestive cocktail after you’ve scoffed the beautiful dinner you made. Whack on a movie (we don’t have to tell you which one) and enjoy your drinks on the couch.
4. Last WordUnless your dad is a real cocktail aficionado, here’s one he likely hasn’t tried (but absolutely should). This Prohibition-era cocktail is fresh, sweet, sour and smells like a dream. It’s a delightful palate cleanser and you can gift him the leftover gin and Chartreuse afterwards to add to his liquor cabinet.
5. NegroniWhen all else fails, nothing beats a Negroni. There’s a reason this classic has etched it’s spot in the cocktail hall of fame – it’s goddamn delicious and ridiculously easy to make. In fact, we suggest keeping Campari, sweet vermouth and gin in the cupboard at all times so you’re always ready to mix one up when the time is right. Negroni for Dad, coming right up.
