Tequila originated in the Mexican state of Jalisco, and we take the word “tequila” from a town of the same name. The spirit is distilled from the blue Agave plant and usually comes with alcohol in the range of 35-40%. However, some tequilas can contain an ABV of up to 55%. Colours can range from clear to light gold depending on how they’re made, and whether they’re aged before bottling. A sip of tequila will usually taste earthy, but fruity and even sweet varieties are also available. In many circles, Tequila is served as a shot with a dash of salt on the side and a wedge of lemon or lime.
