HeYu Estate's 2020 Harmony in Diversity Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% of that variety and has a very deep ruby appearance. On the nose, this wine shares with the other HeYu Estate wines - tasted for the first time in this year's report - a lifted, perfumed Cabernet quality showing sweet blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry fruit with equally sweet-scented pyrazine (mint, tomato vine). The primary emphasis melds together nicely with some new oak notes of toast, smoke, clove and vanilla (it was matured for some 15 months in small-format French oak, of which 60% was new). On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with ripe, coating and fine-grained tannins, some sprightly acidity and relatively well-integrated 14% alcohol providing a robust structure for the well-defined Cabernet fruit complemented by those sweet and savory new oak notes. This is an impressive wine emanating from a challenging vintage in Ningxia, which testifies to the selection of fruit and obvious care taken in the winemaking. With its long, if not very long, length, this is approachable now and will also develop well in bottle over at least the next 5-7 years.
