Six months in qvevri, and then 24 months in new French oak barriques. I can’t help but feel it would have been a better wine if they’d skipped the second part of its elevage. As a result, it tastes like a high quality ‘modern’ red that could be from anywhere, indeed, maybe Argentina, and Malbec, if I had to guess. A very heavy bottle sets the stage. Importer: Nova Vino
There’s no doubt it’s a rich and pliant red wine of high quality, yes, for sure, but the level of oak here is quite something. It’s all creamy coffee oak, dark cherry, mint and sweet spice (cloves in particular), with some liquorice in the mix too. Full-bodied, plush, a little bit inky, with smooth and deep tannin, so polished and ripe, with a finish of very good length, all choc-cherry and almond, with some sweet tobacco. It’s an ‘international’ style of wine, and good in its way, but gee, it would be great to see the fruit take centre stage.
