Miyagikyo Single Malt is a range of single malt expressions from theMiyagikyo Distillery, Nikka's second distillery built in 1969.
The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the region of Miyagi at the confluence of the Nikkawa & Hiroserivers located between villages of Sakunami & Kumagane for their renown fresh waters.
Originally known as the Sendai Distillery, it was renamed Miyagikyo by the Asahi group in 2001.
This no-age-statement Limited Edition version was released in 2022 that truly captures the authentic style of Miyagikyo malts, when all age-statements were discontinued.
Vatting various different malt whiskies together, this bottling expresses a delicate balance betweensherry & wooded aromas.
Nose:Noticeably sweet with more dark stone fruits - cranberries, cherries, raisins & prunes. Fresh, clean & bright. Very fruit-driven with pepper.
Palate:Spiced or mulled wine, more dark stone fruits, cinnamon & anise. Full-bodied withespresso, milk chocolates and vanilla oats. Dried raisins and prunes,concentrated saccharine notes with dried herbs.
Finish:Olive brine closing out with a splendid, spicy, medium length finish. The same mulled wine and dried herbs carries through to the finish. Some oaky notes come through at the last minute, with a slight astringency.
