Whisky Gone A Rye 2 is a special edition of our Rye Malt Whisky matured in Australian Apera casks and the sixteenth release in our Trials & Exceptions series. The Australian Apera casks used to age this spirit were destined for maturing our Single Malt Whisky, but by happy accident, the 100 and 200-litre casks were instead filled with Rye Malt Whisky not once but three times. After the success of Whisky Gone A Rye 1 which was released in November 2021, we’re excited to share with you the second batch of this unique and limited whisky style.
This rich and complex Rye Malt Whisky is imbued with the flavours of high-quality Australian fortified wine in a way usually reserved for single malt, continuing our approach of marrying brilliant Australian rye grains with traditional single malt technique for a uniquely Archie Rose drinking experience.
Our signature Rye Malt Whisky is generally matured in new, charred, American oak casks. This gives the whisky a classic American oak profile and allows the quality of the Australian malted rye and barley grain to shine through. But with this limited edition whisky, our Rye Malt spirit has instead been matured in Australian fortified wine casks, combining the quality of NSW grains with the rich, deep, fruit flavours of outstanding local Apera casks. The vast majority of rye whisky made worldwide is matured in new American oak, making our Whisky Gone A Rye a rare treat among whiskies the world over.
Whisky Gone A Rye 2 displays enticing notes of honey-poached peaches, candied figs, vanilla crème brulée, sweet baking spices and lingering oak.
