Twisted River WinesShiraz Second Pick 2017
About this product
Twisted River Wines is a boutique vineyard located on the Henry Parkes Way, 14kms west of Manildra halfway between Orange and Parkes. Twisted River Wines focuses on producing low yielding, high quality grapes. The diverse geology of the area provides ideal soil for grapes in which to grow.
In a world of low quality, fast everything – it’s nice to come across a producer going against the grain to deliver quality rarely seen… but valued by many.
The revolution is finally here. Preceding it is Twisted River. According to vignerons Helen Armstrong and Michelle Davies – it is less visionary and more tenacious dedication to quality that sets the tone for their unique cool climate wines.
Maintaining the high standard, they have set for themselves in grape growing and wine making over the past 10 years has been their mantra.
Their reward… low yielding, high quality grapes ripening slowly to reveal intense flavours, acidity and balance in the creation of a wine renowned for elegance and versatility and described as medium-bodied forward fruit flavours that are crisp, bright and vibrant.
The grapes for this Shiraz where hand harvested, destemmed and then crushed to a red fermenter. After cold soaking the ferment was allowed to get hot with regular racking and returned to incorporate oxygen and maximise extraction. The wine was pressed to tank then moved to a combination of old and new French oak. The wine was racked post malolactic fermentation and returned to barrel. After 8 months in oak the wine was blended and filtered prior to bottling.
An attractive perfumed Shiraz, medium body, lashings of lifted red berry fruit and peppery spice on the back palate. A perfect match for Asian food but the aroma and flavour pairs equally well with barbequed meats and firm salty cheese.
Enjoy immediately but will reward cellaring for 5 to 10 years. Limited release of 290 dozen
