Patrick Of CoonawarraHome Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
About this product
Home Block was the first wine that Pat released for the family business. It shows the true essence of Coonawarra – rich, dark berry fruits and elegant tannins.
TASTING NOTE:
Rich blackberry fruit is balanced with the subtle spice and cedar aromas. The palate is bold and complex with fine, elegant tannins leading to the long, balanced finish. The warmer vintage has allowed great varietal expression, rich fruit and a bold yet expressive Cabernet.
WINEMAKER’S NOTE:
From our 60 year old vineyard surrounding the family home. 2 years in French & American, tightly grained, medium toast oak barriques (60% new). This wine is complex & will age gracefully.
VINTAGE NOTE:
The season had a fantastic start, with generous Winter rainfall regenerating the aquifer and ensuring adequate subsoil moisture coming into Spring. We saw great canopy growth but a cool November delayed flowering and brought the bunch weights down to just below average. The majority of the state suffered from dry conditions, however our cool climate and on average rainfall kept the vines healthy and made for a long growing season, perfect for Cabernet.

There is a pure essence of Coonawarra in this excellent cabernet sourced off the original 60-year-old vineyard planted near the family home. Masses of plush dark blackcurrant and spicy cedary fruit characters. A tobacco leaf and sage bush character overlays the aromatic fruit. It was quite a warm vintage, so you are getting of wine of some power and volume.

The 60-year-old vineyard surrounds the family home. The wine spends two years maturing in both French and American oak. A wine with gumption and a bundle of worldly spices. Fruit shows in Bing cherries, blackberry bush and quince paste. Dried thyme, star anise and fennel seed meet dusty, granular tannins. There is a leafy tree sap note and some cola and aniseed on the finish. This wine has stayed true to its savoury and heady, spiced character and it is another vintage that will continue to age in that same vein.
