About this product

A vatting of 2 casks, this Caol Ila 11 years old was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2022, having spent its maturation period in refill sherry butts. The whisky was bottled at cask strength, resulting in a high alcohol content of 59.1%. This particular expression showcases the distillery's signature peaty and spicy character, balanced by the influence of the refill sherry cask.
Nose: On the nose, the Caol Ila 11 years old offers an enticing blend of smoke and salt, with a hint of sweetness in the background. The peat smoke is distinct but not overpowering, providing a subtle layer of complexity. There are also notes of brine, seaweed, and a faint nuttiness, all contributing to the maritime character of the whisky. Overall, the nose is inviting and promises a bold, flavorful dram.
Palate: The palate of the Caol Ila 11 years old is dry and spicy, with the alcohol content delivering a punch. However, the flavors are well-balanced, with the peat smoke, salt, and spice working together in harmony. There is also a subtle sweetness, with hints of honey and vanilla, adding depth and complexity. The mouthfeel is oily and coats the tongue, leaving a long, lingering finish of salted caramel. Overall, this expression offers a bold and flavorful experience, showcasing the best of Caol Ila's character.
About Caol Ila Distillery
The Caol Ila distillery was originally founded in 1846 and then completely rebuilt in 1974. Equipped with three wash stills with a capacity of 20,000 litres and three spirit stills with a capacity of 14,000 litres, it is the largest distillery on Islay. Through the notes of oily peat found on the attack, this cask strength bottling transcends the smoky, iodine and spicy character this outstanding single malt is famous for. Expect lots of peat on the nose with hints of exotic fruits lingering. A soft chocolatey and metholated palate followed by a finish with nores of bacon and noble spice.
