InterludeMarlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020
About this product
This is a wine worth pausing for
Classic passionfruit and citrus flavours
Delicious with seafood and light salads
Region: Marlborough, New Zealand.
Colour: Bright, pale straw with green tints.
Nose: Aromas of cut grass and box hedge. Lifted herbal nose with hints of ripe tropical and floral notes.
Palate: Aromatic flavours of lime and passionfruit. Fresh Sauvignon Blanc nicely weighted with crisp acid. Bright, crunchy acid minerality.
Oak: Unoaked.
Food Match: Salt and Pepper Calamari with rocket and thinly sliced parmesan cheese.
Winemaker: Sally Blackwell.
Drink Until: 2023.
Those pungent, faintly sweaty aromas are typical of the modern style of Marlborough 'Savvy' - early examples were more reminiscent of freshly cut grass. Passionfruit and pineapple characters can also be found. It's fresh faced and lively on the palate, with rich fruit flavours acting as a counterbalance to the keen acids. The finish is long and superbly refreshing. It's the perfect wine for oysters, ideally freshly shucked, but if they're not your thing try it with steamed asparagus, served with a soft-poached egg on top and shavings of Parmesan cheese. If you can afford the real thing, Italian Parmigiano-Reggiano, it will change the dish from very good to sublime. Don't cellar it - it's ready to go right now.
