Larry Cherubino has had a particularly distinguished winemaking career, first at Hardys Tintara, then Houghton, and thereafter as consultant/Flying Winemaker in Australia, NZ, South Africa, the US and Italy. He has developed three ranges: at the top is Cherubino (Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon); next The Yard, single vineyard wines from WA; and at the bottom the Ad Hoc label, all single region wines. The range and quality of his wines is extraordinary, the prices irresistible.
Frankland River Wine Region:
Frankland River wine is one of Western Australia’s best-kept secrets in the Great Southern region, but its award-winning wine styles are bringing the area into the spotlight. The cool-climate wine region grows a diverse range of grapes, with standout varieties including cabernet sauvignon and shiraz, and well-suited whites, including riesling and sauvignon blanc, are fast finding favour.
Vintage Conditions:
2019 vintage in the Great Southern was a late and cool one, quite different to the rest of the country. Winemaker Kate Morgan (Byron&Harold) said “We started picking about two weeks later than usual and so far, this has resulted in some lovely whites which have had time to develop delicate flavours while retaining natural acidity."
