Mum's BlockBarossa Shiraz 2018
About this product
Full bodied and firm.
A step above the rest.
Region: Barossa, South Australia.
Colour: Deep red with purple hues in its youth.
Nose: Complex bouquet of dark chocolate and ripe black plums. Slightly charry and vanillin oak characters add further depth to the underlying hints of bramble and black berry.
Palate: Full bodied and firm with strong fruit characters of plum, earthy spice and chocolate. Complex with a sweet and sour savoury finish supported by robust tannins and a lengthy persistence and tenacity. This Shiraz has great flavours and an excellent firm, integrated tannin structure that will allow the wine to live for 10 years or more!
Oak: 18 months in new and used American and French oak hogsheads.
Food Match: Slow cooked shoulder of lamb and roasted vegetables.
Winemaker: Nick Badrice.
Drink Until: 2030.
The grapes for this wine come from bush vines that grow low to the ground, often without trellis support and have a bushy appearance. They have less foliage and less fruit, the advantage of bush vine fruit is that it is very intense in its concentration of flavour and lower yields imparts even further complexity and richness. Old vines such as these are very fragile and must be hand harvested to protect our unique heritage. A dry winter, Spring and Summer was compromised somewhat by a sudden heavy rainfall in February, luckily cool, dry windy weather followed drying out the vines preventing any disease from humidity. Baume levels bounced back ensuring a big concentrated, textured wine.Mum's Block is considered one of the icon wines from the area. The wine has been bottled well in advance of its release date to allow bottle maturation and flavour development that will mean a lengthening the palate.
