5 Red Star winery
Red and dark berry fruits
Perfectly suited to Indian cuisine
Region: South Australia.
Colour: Deep red with purple hues.
Nose: Aromas of cherry and blackcurrant with herbal undertones.
Palate: The medium to full palate is well balanced with red and dark berry fruits, good length and a soft, rounded finish.
Oak: Subtle use of oak. Food Match: Perfectly suited to pork dishes or Indian cuisine. Drink Until: 2023 The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Angove family's own vineyards and premium growers in the region. Soils are predominantly red sandy loam over limestone, on gently undulating east west ridges. This Merlot was harvested in early February with careful planning needed to ensure we picked at exactly the right moment as the weather started to warm up. Good canopy development protected the grapes and yields were on average and fruit quality outstanding with no disease pressures throughout the harvest period. The grapes for this wine were picked at night to make sure that they were as cool as possible. Crushed to modern rotary fermenters the grapes were then allowed to macerate for 2 days before inoculation and fermentation. Pressed off skins 7 days later and allowed to go through the second malolactic fermentation. The wine has then had minimal handling prior to filtration for bottling.
