Journey WinesHeathcote Shiraz 2016
About this product
The coldest Winter in recent memory led into a warm and dry Spring and early Summer. The warm and dry conditions continued through late Summer, leading to the earliest harvest on record in 2016.
75% destemmed, with 25% whole bunches added into open fermenters. Fermentation with wild yeast took place once the must had warmed naturally over a number of days. The cap was gently hand plunged daily, as well as pumped over once per day during the peak of ferment. After 20 days on skins the wine was pressed and transferred to barrel for malolactic fermentation. 30% of the oak was new French barriques, with the remainder in older French barriques. The wine was racked twice during its 16 months in barrel, before bottling unfined. Bottled on 31/07/17.
The 2016 Journey Wines Heathcote Shiraz is a bright garnet colour. The nose of red plum and mulberry shows distinct white-pepper spice. The palate is vibrant and fresh, a soft and juicy mid palate with flavours of plums, licorice and blackberry leading to a long and silky finish.

Not your typical Heathcote red, but not shy on flavour either. It's ripe, juicy red and black currant fruit is enhanced with a gentle sprinkling of white pepper and laced with fresh fruit acidity. The lovely fruit purity is unimpeded by too much oak. A delicious shiraz for your immediate enjoyment.
