PindarieSmall Block Montepulciano 2018
About this product
Sourced from our estate grown Small Block near Rosedale Road on limestone over red earth.
A slow and late ripening variety, ideal for the western ridge of the Barossa.
Minimal interference, hand plunged, treated gently and pressed when tannin balance is right. It’s a high acid grape with vibrant colour. Once pressed, matured in aged oak for a 12-month sleep.
Exudes varietal fruit with harmony in strong gritty tannins, vibrant bright, raspberry red colour! A sense of dark chocolate, with high acid on the finish. The monte requires patience as it comes in at the end of the season. It is a quiet achiever and a resilient grape. Ability to retain acid with strong tannin, it can cellar for 5-10 years, but the youthfulness is great for edgy tannins. It’s a tough warm climate variety and can handle the heat, great for climate change!

The eminent Italian variety, montepulciano, seems well suited to the Barossa environs, if this award winning red is anything to go by. The warmth of the Barossa brings about fleshy black cherry fruit tinged with warmed dark spices, licorice and roasted root vegetable notes. The satisfyingly rich flavours team well with Barossa charcuterie.
