About this product

The grapes were grown in the highlands of Tumbarumba, in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. The vineyard is at 600 metres altitude and is on a northern facing slope. Therefore the sunshine on the vines is maximised in a naturally cool location. The soil is a rich clay loam with a rocky subsurface. Excellent attributes for a premium cool climate vineyard. Pinot Noir from this region has aromatic berry fruit with a tight, lean structure.

WINEMAKING:
The grapes were handpicked and fermented in small open fermenters. We allowed around 30% whole bunches while the rest was destemmed. Fermentation was allowed to proceed as a natural ferment with inoculated yeast added later. The secondary fermentation was partially in oak barrels which contributed to the complexity and roundness of the wine. The wine was bottled under screwcap to secure its quality and freshness

TASTING NOTE:
Fruit forward with strawberries & dark cherries leading the way. Light bodied with balanced acidity and silky tannin.

A great introduction to the variety.

FOOD:
Game meat dishes complement the berry fruit flavours of the wine. Lighter style Cheeses also match well.
