Australis Syrah McLaren Vale 2012

The Clarendon Hills Astralis Syrah vineyard is a single vineyard planted in the 1920’s and is located in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale.  First discovered in 1990 by Roman Bratasiuk, this vineyard is currently rated by international critics as one of the highest scored wines in the world. 
The Astralis vineyard is a due East aspect with approximately a 20-30% degree incline, catching the cool morning sun and is then shielded by the hot afternoon summer sun. The soil is composed of loamy sands with quartz, ironstone and shale spread throughout the site. The Astralis Syrah upon release in 1994 was Australia’s first ever bottle of red wine priced at $100. Astralis is now considered an Australian icon of the fine wine world. It is one of the highest scoring and consistently high scoring wines in the world and the wine features in countless Michelin starred restaurants across the world, in many Airlines First Class wine service menus.
