Seville EstateVillage Chardonnay, Yarra Valley, 2021
About this product
The Seville Estate 2021 Village Chardonnay is a stunning blend of two single-vineyard wines one from the Seville Estate home site and another from the outstanding Isabella Vineyard in Gruyere on the floor of the Yarra Valley surrounded by top sites for Yarra Yering, Giant Steps and Levantine Hill to name a few.
Destined to be stand-alone single-vineyard wines, Dylan McMahon, winemaker and grandson of founder Dr Peter McMahon, experimented by blending the two wines and the result was a delicate pale hued wine showing aromatics of spice and a lovely acid line on the palate. He felt that the wines complemented each other so well and created a powerhouse regional chardonnay available exclusively to My Dan Muprhy's members only.
The D'Aloisio Vineyard on the Seville Estate winery site is a north-facing vineyard with red soils and 180 metres above sea level. The wine from this site gives a lot of power and drive for this flinty delicate style. The wine from this site was housed in 500ltr barrels with whole-bunch, whole solids and wild fermentation it saw 15% new oak and no malolactic ferment.
The Isabella Vineyard is regarded as one of the best sites on the valley floor and the wine from this site provides a mid-palate core structure in a delicate and refined manner. The wine from this site was made in 100% Foudre barrel and was left on lees for 10 months, with no malolactic fermentation.
The wine is bright straw yellow with a clear green hue.with a bouquet of fresh and lifted aromas of white peach and nectarine with an undertone of cashew and citurs.
THe apalte is tight and focused with mouth-watering melon and citrus fruits. The finish is delicate with white flowers and a great line of acidity. This is a young Chardonnay showing complexity and length while staying bright and fresh.
