About this product
Domaine du Gaour de Chaule was established at the begining of the last century where it was split between the production of olives and vines. As the years progressed it became more focussed on winemaking and from the 1970s onwards the estate has been bottling and selling its own wines. The estate has 10 hectares planted predominantly with Grenache. The rest of the vineyards are planted with Syrah, Mourvedre and a little Cinsault for making rose. Stefanie Fumoso is the third generation female winemaker, her grandmother began making wines in 1970, followed by Stefanie's mother, Aline Bonfils. Under Stefanie's stewardship the wines have become lighter and more elegant. the 2019 Tradition Gigondas is a deep red colour and a bouquet of menthol, mixed dark berries and mixed herbs. The wine speaks clearly of its terroir with a supple mouthfeel and a delicious mix of berries and liquorice. The wine has a lengthy finish and crisp tannins that will fuse and expand with cellaring. Stefanie recommends drinking the wine over winter with Chicken Bresse or Duck with Olives. Over summer she says the wine is joyful with a playful serve of goats cheese, melon and strawberries.
