The Yangchon Brewery is a renowned establishment in Nonsan, producing top-quality rice wines with a rich flavour that reflects its 100-year history. The brewery uses traditional methods that have been passed down for three generations, with the expertise of a master brewer who has 40 years of experience. The brewery's origins date back to 1920 when Mr. Jongjin Lee founded a small brew house that later became the current brewery in 1930. Today, the family business is maintained by the third generation.
The brewery's current wooden building, which was initially designed for producing makgeolli, has a conventional natural ventilation system that helps to control the high temperature and humidity generated during the brewing process. This design allows for a natural and eco-friendly brewing process that results in premium refined rice wine called Yangchon Chungju. This chungju is made of pesticide-free sweet rice that is cultivated through eco-friendly farming methods using freshwater snails (woorung). It is matured for 60 days at a low temperature without any natural or artificial sweeteners, resulting in a gentle and clean taste that is unmatched. The traditional chungju has a natural deep sweet flavour from premium Korean sweet rice, and it undergoes a pasteurization process before being distributed.
