Medium to full red-purple; a cascade of aromas running through briar, chocolate and blackcurrant, with relatively subtle oak leads on to a superb wine on the palate with similar flavours, and great persistence and length. Chewy and structured in the best Penfolds tradition, it will live for decades. Retasted on numerous occasions during 1997 with roughly similar notes. Cassis fruit to the fore.
