Solid blackberry and damson plum fruit, with a nice twist of spice; powerful, long finish.

Not what you might be expecting. Low on oak, or it is once it’s breathed a bit, with rich plummy fruit that has a distinct, elegant spiciness rarely seen in Penfolds Kalimna – though there’s yet lots of cedary kirsch characters and fine, chocolatey tannins. The alcohol is warm, and noticeable, and I’d be surprised if there isn’t a tick of volatility here.
