Vintage 2016
97 points
A wine that pays homage to the pioneers of the Barossa, to the gnarly old vines and the superb wines produced from them for over a century and a half. Previous vintages of this wine have been brilliant, so expectations for the 2016 release were high. No disappointments there. The wine is everything that the best southern Barossa shiraz should be - rich of fruit, soft of tannin, long and luxurious on the finish. It's very possible to spend a lot of money on high quality Barossa shiraz. Here's one for under $100 that matches it with any of them. At 6 years of age the wine can be easily cellared for another 15 years, although it's smooth enough for immediate enjoyment.
