Small, ripe berries from a great vintage are key here; cassis and firm dried plums, a vivid concentration and understated power driving what is a seamless and aristocratic wine of great poise and natural length. Holds such a presence at the table too. Decant and spend an hour or two for sublime enjoyment.

It smells beautiful. A flood of cassis and violet, oak nestled neatly within. The palate follows suit, deep, brooding, warm and firm. It offers a comforting hug and then squeezes tight. Whether or not it''s a little too tight, and fractionally warm; I''d opt for neither, but the questions were raised. As it breathed and unfolded my confidence in it grew accordingly.
