About this product

Montrose is one of Mudgee's pre-eminent wineries with a long and established record of producing quality wines from premium vineyard sites. Now under the stewardship of industry icon, Robert Oatley, Montrose have produced a wine that has paid homage to the name given to its Shiraz many years ago by its fans. Montrose Black Shiraz is made from fruit grown in vineyards over 500m in altitude bringing a structure and elegance to the wine while still delivering those traditional power-packed, rich fruit flavours everyone has come to love.

This is what a big Shiraz is all about. Strong and brooding, this offering from Montrose hits the mark in every way. We had 2 x bottles with slow braised beef cheeks in a pedro ximenez sherry sauce with garlic mash. Just divine.

As far as full bodied Shiraz's go, this is tremendous. Not for the squeemish or faint hearted. Proper full body, almost heavy in the flavour and makes no bones about it's purpose. With a rare steak and mushrooms, sublime.

This is certainly smooth (it doesn't bite), but it's devoid of any taste or life and it's a chore to get through. Might have just lucked it for a bad one based on other reviews but, at $25+ a bottle, I'll be going elsewhere in future.
