Basket Pressed Reynella McLaren Vale Shiraz. John Reynell is one of the founding fathers of the South Australia wine industry. Established in 1838, Reynella continues the long tradition of creating world class red wine. Small parcels of mature vineyard (40-70 year old) Shiraz predominantly sourced from the Upper Tintara and McLaren Flat subregions of McLaren Vale, were carefully hand-picked then fermented in small five tonne opera fermenters. The wine was then gently pressed in a 93 year old basket press ensuring gentle extraction of tannin from the skins. Matured in French oak barriques for sixteen months, the wine was artfully barrel selected then blended to achieve this classic McLaren Vale Shiraz.  An abundantly rich and generous McLaren Vale Shiraz from a strong vintage, Reynella Basket Pressed shows layers of flavour and intensity. Ripe dark berry flavours, dark chocolate and liquorice abound with subtle vanilla oak spice and soft velvety tannins building the complexity to a long, savoury and soft finish. This wine will enjoy cellaring for up to 15 years from vintage along with decanting due to the minimal filtration used in its development.
