A neat and convincing example of the lead that McLaren vale's grenaches have over those of other regions, exceptions such as Turkey Flat's Jimmy Watson winner agreed. This single vineyard has a deep sand over clay soil, and has gully breezes that produce a beautifully light to medium-bodied wine, with highly spiced red fruits and silky tannins. If you don't have pinot noir to hand at your local Chinese restaurant, this should do the trick to perfection.

Fabulously ripe and perfumed, the bouquet shows sweet cherry, dark plum, mixed spice, thyme and hazelnut characters with a touch of gamey complexity. It is succulent and fleshy on the palate, offering terrific fruit power backed by gracefully smooth mouthfeel and polished tannins. A gorgeous rendition of the variety. At its best: now to 2022.
