Fermented across two batches: 50% whole bunch with crushed fruit; the other, whole berries, to confer a partial carbonic softness and lifted lilac notes, the result is firm, aromatic and attractively rustic. The tannins, doused in black olive, pepper grind and iodine, are textural and moreish. This wine may not please effete technocrats, but I am not one of them. The aromas are rewarding, too: blueberry, salami and spice. A bit of a yeoman, this is nevertheless an expressive shiraz deserved of attention.

Fabulously fruited and perfumed, the immediately appealing bouquet shows Black Doris plum, dark cherry, thyme, hazelnut and floral aromas. The palate exhibits lovely weight and succulent fruit intensity, wonderfully supported by flowing mouthfeel and refined tannins. This is stylish, elegant and generous at the same time, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2028.
