Their first vintage was in 1842 after John Reynell received vine cuttings from William Macarthur from NSW. McLaren Vale fruit is used to make the Basket Pressed Shiraz; a full bodied and ripe style. It is widely regarded as one of the very best wines the region produces.

Full bodied red wines have a noticeably textural mouthfeel with bold, complex flavours. Often deeply coloured.

We hold regional wine show results in high regard, as the wines are judged among their peer group, and by men and women who know the regional capabilities intimately. As James Halliday says, Reynella's Basket Pressed Shiraz is "a quintessential McLaren Vale Shiraz". The wine is evolving nicely, displaying dark, intensely flavoured black fruit, beef stock, dark chocolate, black pepper and fine ripe tannins. Allow the wine at least half an hour in a decanter before serving..
