This is the number one selling champagne in France and ranks number three globally, so they must be doing something right. The wine, in the glass, has a bright, clear gold colour and the "bubble action" is highly energetic, to say the least. The bead is very fine, which always seems to be a good sign.
Vivacious and fresh with lifted citrus notes and apple characters, it makes a very good initial impression. The requisite "baked goods" yeastiness that often defines "French" champagne is obvious, and we even detected a hint of mushroom in the background. Your attention is held until the last sip.
It compares more than favourably with other famous champagnes in its price group and presents as a wine that would never let you down.
