Good deep colour and rich chocolaty bouquet, deftly oak-infused but not overdone, the palate full-bodied, chocolaty and rich with a good spine of tannin. All in all, a very good red that drinks well now and promises to take some age. Outstanding value for money.

Fruit from 3 vineyards in Clare. Matured for 24 months in predominantly American oak. It is surprising that this much American oak, which can be very obvious in the glass, has not yielded an oak bomb. Instead, the fruit has enough heft and weight to rise above the oak that encases it, and drives the wine across the mouth – powered by blackberries, cocoa, cassis, jubes and gentle spice. Compelling drinking for the money. Big bang for buck, if big flavour is your proclivity.
