About this product

Quality of fruit has been the lynchpin for the famous Chateau Batailley; an intent to grow better grapes has resulted in increasing praise and interest in the wines of a once formidable estate. The 55 hectares of vines are split between Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 25%, Cabernet Franc 3%, Petit Verdot 2%on gravel, clay and limestone soils, now farmed for balance in flavour over volume. The fruit is also being more carefully vinified; hand-picked, it is fermented in stainlesss steel tanks before being sent to small barrels for 16 months. The resulting wine, and particularly from 2010, is fruit pure, concentrated and yet holds a freshness and finesse that is ultimately seductive.
