The Limoux property in the western portion of Languedoc, not too far from Carcasonne, was founded in 1862 and has been owned by Jean Claude Mas since 2002. Elevation of the vineyards is from 300 to 400 metres bringing a cool, slow ripening, modern feel to the spiciness of the syrah. The wine is layered, more complex and and more serious than many others in its price range. A myriad of flavours keep you entertained with each sip. From blackberries, blackberry leaf to mulberry, tamarillo, charcuterie and vanilla, not to forget the classic syrah peppercorn grind. It's a change from the solid shiraz wines of Australia. It gets extra points for craftsmanship and value for money.
