From the Great Western Vineyard, (Bass and Arrawatta blocks), whole berry fermentation, powdery tannins in the base wine, 7+ years on lees following secondary fermentation. The liqueur d'expedition has provided 21g/l of residual sugar, at the bottom end of the scale. Shiraz shines in this wine.

Its complexity announces itself like a flying red flag. Bright raspberry, mushroom, earth spice and leathery black cherry. Medium bodied but almost has a blackcurrant aspect. Has a big kick through the finish. Has a soft mellowness through the centre, though it still feels very young. Too young. Purple and red fruits. Dry, almost tannic finish. Soft and ready-enough to drink and yet its been built to age. Has decades ahead of it, particularly under crown seal. The dryness of the finish is compelling. Thoroughly modern and yet thoroughly traditional. Drier and less flesh than the Seppelt SSRS of the 1980s, for instance, but long term it will be a tremendous wine. It will live for 30+ vintages if stored correctly.
