Scotch Whisky renegades from Islay, Bruichladdich, continue to embark on a whisky tour de force with their Octomore range. The aim, to create the world's most heavily peated single malt Whisky. The fifth release of the über-experimental Octomore just got peatier with the 5.1 peated to an extraordinary 169ppm. The initial palate of juniper oil, peat smoked barley, salted biscuits and crushed cinnamon moves forward to the second phase of citrus flavours of grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple. This wonderful dram is widely acclaimed with Jim Murray voting this his Single Malt of the Year in 2010. But don't delay, with only a touch over 15,000 bottles produced worldwide, this special release won't hang around for long.
