Established by Phillip Jones in 1979, the vineyards are located at Leongatha in the most southern part of Victoria. Named after early explorers of the region, George Bass and Arthur Phillip, Bass Phillip is located not far from the sea, but far enough inland to experience a continental climate ideal for grape growing.

Light bodied red wines have a water-light mouthfeel and light flavour impact. Often pale to light/medium in colour.

The 30-year-old vines, and possibly the biodynamic practices used, have given this wine the deepest colour of the '11 wines, with a strong crimson-purple hue. Here red cherry is the leader of the fruit aromas and flavours, the palate as yet linear and tightly bound; when it softens and opens up, the acidity evident should stand the wine in good stead.
